X-SeeO₂ is conceived as an enabling platform within the Challenge portfolio, providing direct access to advanced X-ray–based analytical methods (XRPD and XRµCT) and expert data interpretation to accelerate innovation across multiple research fronts. Acting as both a technological hub and collaborative bridge, X-SeeO₂ supports all four Challenge categories, with a primary focus on Enabling Technologies (category #4). Through its objectives, the project offers the portfolio community cutting-edge imaging and scanning capabilities, standardised workflows, and training for robust data acquisition and analysis.

This X-ray data and analysis platform is enhanced by the development of sample cells for real-time in-situ experiments, tailored to the needs of CO₂ mineralisation studies. Recognising the current lack of suitable tools for synchrotron-based XRPD and XRµCT data collection under relevant conditions, X-SeeO₂ will develop and adapt new experimental cells that will be made available to the portfolio. In parallel, robust workflows for X-ray diffraction and imaging data acquisition and analysis are being established, building on the partners’ extensive expertise in cementitious materials and extending to laboratory-scale investigations.

The project’s enabling technologies are complemented by extensive access to synchrotron and laboratory X-ray facilities, ensuring comprehensive data generation, processing, and interpretation for the portfolio community. Dedicated resources are allocated for data analysis and portfolio-wide collaboration, ensuring consistent support and scientific excellence.
